Posta vs Buffer: an honest Buffer alternative for 2026
Posta is a multi-platform social media scheduler covering LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, Facebook, X (Twitter), Bluesky, and Threads — the same networks Buffer publishes to, plus a comments inbox, a public REST API, outbound webhooks, and a Claude Code CLI. This page is an honest comparison: what Posta does better, what Buffer still does better, and which one is right for you.
What Buffer does well
Buffer has been around since 2010 and it shows. The publish queue and visual calendar are genuinely well-designed. The Start Page (link-in-bio) is a polished standalone product. The mobile apps are mature and stable. The brand is trusted by agencies and large publishers. For a creator who wants a familiar, low-friction tool with strong UI polish and minimal setup, Buffer is a good default — and we'll say that on this page even though we're trying to win your business.
Where Posta differs
Posta is the leaner, developer-friendly alternative. Five differences worth flagging:
- Comments inbox. LinkedIn and TikTok comments are pulled into Posta every 10 minutes; reply directly from the post detail page, with unread badges on each card. Buffer's Engage covers more networks but Posta's comes included on every tier.
- Public REST API. Posta exposes the full create-post / schedule / list-comments surface as documented REST endpoints at api.getposta.app/docs. Bearer-token auth, self-serve token generation from the dashboard. Buffer's API has historically been restricted in practice.
- Outbound webhooks. HMAC-signed event delivery for post.scheduled, post.published, post.failed, etc. Retried with exponential backoff up to 5 attempts. Buffer does not ship outbound webhooks.
- CLI / IDE posting. Posta has a Claude Code skill so you can create, schedule, and publish from your terminal or IDE using natural language. Buffer has no CLI surface.
- Bluesky & Threads as first-class citizens. Both are native (not bolted-on) in Posta. Buffer has added support but coverage of each network's quirks varies.

When Buffer is still the right choice
If any of these are critical for you, stay on Buffer:
- You want a polished native mobile app. Buffer's iOS and Android apps are years ahead of where Posta is today. We have a mobile-responsive web app; we don't have native apps.
- You sell to agencies and need team-handover tooling. Buffer's seat management, approval flows, and client-collaboration features are deeper than ours.
- You rely on Start Page (link-in-bio). Posta doesn't ship a link-in-bio product. Buffer's is well-designed and free with paid tiers.
- You need deep historical analytics out of the box. Buffer's analytics product has years of accumulated metric tracking. Ours is leaner.
- You're a Buffer power user with workflows that already work. Switching costs are real. Don't switch just because we wrote a comparison page.
When Posta is the better fit
If you're an indie creator, a solo founder, a small team, or a developer-leaning user who values:
- A public REST API and outbound webhooks on every paid tier
- Posting from your terminal or IDE via Claude Code
- Native Bluesky and Threads support without workarounds
- A comments inbox you can actually script against
- Face-aware automatic cropping so you stop re-exporting media manually

Buffer alternative FAQ
Is Posta a Buffer alternative?
Yes. Posta covers the same nine networks Buffer publishes to and adds Bluesky and Threads (which Buffer also added recently but not all comparable alternatives do), plus a comments inbox for LinkedIn and TikTok, a public REST API with OpenAPI spec, outbound HMAC-signed webhooks, and a Claude Code CLI skill — none of which Buffer ships.
Is Posta cheaper than Buffer?
Both tools have a free trial; paid tiers are competitive. The honest answer: at small scale (1–2 connected accounts) Buffer's free tier is hard to beat. Above that, Posta's pricing is more linear — you pay per usage rather than per channel — and the API + CLI come included on every paid tier, while Buffer scopes them to higher plans.
Does Posta support every Buffer feature?
No. Buffer has a longer history and ships features Posta doesn't yet: a polished mobile app, Start Page (link-in-bio), more mature team-collaboration controls, and a deeper analytics product. Posta is leaner and more developer-friendly; if those features are critical, Buffer is still the right choice.
Can I migrate my Buffer schedule to Posta?
Buffer's export is CSV-shaped. Posta's create-post API accepts the same fields (caption, media URLs, scheduled time, target accounts), so a script can replay an export into Posta in a few hundred lines. We don't ship a one-click importer today; ping us and we'll help you scaffold one.
Does Posta have an inbox like Buffer's Engage?
Posta's comments inbox covers LinkedIn and TikTok in v1 — see, mark-read, and reply directly from Posta, with unread badges on each post. Buffer's Engage has wider network coverage and unified-conversation features Posta doesn't match yet.
Does Posta have a public API like Buffer?
Yes, and it's included on every paid tier — not gated behind enterprise contracts. Full OpenAPI spec at https://api.getposta.app/docs. Buffer has an API but practical access has historically been restricted; Posta's is documented, signed-webhook-friendly, and you can self-serve a token from the dashboard.
Can I post from my terminal with Posta but not Buffer?
Correct. Posta ships a Claude Code skill that lets you create, schedule, and publish posts from your terminal or IDE via natural-language commands. Buffer doesn't have a developer-CLI surface.
When is Buffer the right choice over Posta?
If you want a polished mobile app, an established Start Page (link-in-bio), team-handover tooling for an agency setup, or deep historical analytics out of the box, Buffer is still the better fit. Posta is for creators and small teams who value an API, a CLI, and explicit Bluesky/Threads support over breadth of UI polish.
